lines can haunt you

The power of one

According to a world population counter I found just now, there were, approximately, six billion, six hundred and thirty-six million, nine hundred and twenty-three thousand, eight hundred and thirty-nine of us at midnight, August 2. From then til now, approximately one hundred and fourteen thousand, five hundred and eighty-nine more people have joined us. I'm not sure if that's net or gross, but I guess it doesn't matter. It's a number, it represents something, whether it's accurate or not is moot...the number climbs and climbs, and though we occasionally mark it, mostly we do not - we know that, on the whole of it, more and more people are coming into this place everyday, and what is significant about that is to make it known how much meaning can exist in just one of those digits (as if you didn't already), because today one of those digits meant I am now an uncle twice-over, and really, all I want to say is:

Welcome, little one. We've all been waiting so impatiently for you...and now you are here at last. Can't wait to meet you!
